$69-289) offers 44 guest rooms in their recently remodeled pet-friendly motel unit and 26 in
the lodge, where no two rooms are alike. All guest rooms have a refrigerator, a microwave,
and an LCD TV, and the lodge rooms were rebuilt in 2009 with amenities like handmade
furniture and new, fluffy duvets.
The Alpine Motel (120 Madison Ave., 406/646-7544,
www.alpinemotelwestyellowstone.com , $65-165) is a budget-friendly choice with a variety
of units, some including kitchens, just two blocks from the park entrance. The service by
owners Brian and Patty is noticeably good. Another good independent property, which is
only open mid-May-mid-October, is Al's Westward Ho Motel (16 Boundary St., 888/
646-7331, www.alswestwardhomotel.net , $79-145), which is just across the street from the
park entrance and the IMAX Theatre. A couple of blocks farther from the entrance, but a
longstanding and reliable choice in town is the 79-room, pet-friendly Brandin' Iron Inn
(201 Canyon, 406/646-9411 or 800/217-4613, www.brandiniron.com , $69-185).
As for larger, chain hotels in town, there are a number. There are three Best Western op-
tions in town, the nicest of which is probably the Best Western Weston Inn (103 Gibbon
Ave., 406/646-7373, www.bestwestern.com , $190-220). Other options include Holiday Inn
West Yellowstone (315 Yellowstone Ave., 406/646-7365 or 800/315-2621, www.ihg.com ,
$96-485), Days Inn West Yellowstone (310 Madison, 406/646-7656, www.daysinn.com ,
$100-260), Yellowstone Kelly Inn (104 S. Canyon, 406/646-4544,
www.yellowstonekellyinn.com , $100-230), and, 7.5 miles from town, West Yellowstone
Super 8 (1545 Targhee Pass, 406/646-9584, www.super8.com , $106-161).
CAMPING
With nearly two dozen private and public campgrounds in the vicinity of West, campers
have plenty of choices, although most are geared to RV campers. The nearest U.S. Forest
Service campground is Baker's Hole Campground (U.S. 191, 3 miles northwest of West
Yellowstone, 406/823-6961, www.hebgenbasincampgrounds.com , May 1-Sept. 15 depend-
ing on weather, $16 for 1 vehicle, $6 for each additional vehicle, plus $6 for electrical sites),
with 73 sites set on a scenic oxbow of the Madison River. Basic services such as water and
trash pickup are provided, there is firewood for sale, and the fishing is excellent.
Right in town, just six blocks from the park's west entrance, is Wagon Wheel RV
