SHOPPING
Shopping in Red Lodge is a leisurely stroll through the historic downtown district. Broad-
way has still managed to retain the charm and vibrancy of the coal-mining days with a
diverse assortment of stores. Sylvan Peak Mountain Shop (9 N. Broadway Ave., 406/
446-1770, 9am-6pm daily) is a perfect starting point for anyone in need of adventure-re-
lated gear. The store carries their own line of clothing as well as more familiar brands such
as Marmot, Mountain Hardware, and Osprey. There is also an outlet store on their main
floor and a Mountain Shoppe downstairs that not only sells equipment but also rents cross-
country skis, telemark skis, and snowshoes. From climbing gear to boating gear, fleeces or
bear spray, you will find it—plus the best insider's advice anywhere, and a true commit-
ment to protecting the great outdoors—at Sylvan Peak.
Right next door, you'll find the irresistible Montana Candy Emporium (7 N. Broad-
way Ave., 406/446-1119, 9am-7pm Sun.-Thurs., 9am-9pm Fri.-Sat.). Their mouthwatering
window displays will draw you in to this world of sweets. It is said to be the largest candy
store in Montana, which is easy to believe meandering through their selection of more than
800 sugary treats. Located in the former Park Theater, decorated with nostalgic memorabil-
ia, and selling old-fashioned candies, this store will take you back to a simpler time.
Since 1990, Kibler and Kirch (101 N. Broadway Ave., 406/446-2802 or 406/446-2226,
www.kiblerandkirch.com , 9am-5:30pm Mon.-Sat, 11am-5pm Sun.) has been a pillar of the
downtown shopping scene in Red Lodge. A home-furnishings store with a nice selection of
Western artwork and accessories, their selections include pottery, glassware, and handcraf-
ted leather. Since many of their products are made in Montana, you may find the perfect
gift to take home.
