The Murray Hotel is always hopping.
ACCOMMODATIONS
It's true that Livingston has quite a collection of funky roadside motels that have seen
better days, but there are some treasures around town and down the valley. Right in town,
the Murray Hotel (201 W. Park St., 406/222-1350, www.murrayhotel.com , $139-359) is a
Montana standard. It hasn't been glamorously overhauled, but the authenticity works well,
and the place is rich with history, including the story of Will Rogers and Walter Hill trying
to bring a saddle horse to the 3rd floor in a 1905 hand-cranked elevator. Guest rooms are
always clean and well-appointed with elegant details.
Nestled between town and Paradise Valley is the Blue Winged Olive (5157 U.S. 89 S.,
3 miles south of Livingston, 406/222-8646, mid-Mar.-Nov., $110-160), a cute little B&B
geared to anglers. You can hang your waders on your deck to dry while you sip a cocktail
