amenities are pretty plush and the food is sensational. It is entirely worth the drive to visit
the Sac for a meal, or just a cocktail, at Pompey's Grill. Sunday brunches in non-summer
months are special.
FOOD
If you have recently traveled through rural Montana, Bozeman seems like a food-lover's
mecca. With everything from sushi to tapas, the town affords diners much more than the
burgers and steaks for which the state is so well known (although there is an outstanding
selection of those as well).
The M Community Food Co-op (908 W. Main St., 406/587-4039, www.bozo.coop ,
7am-9pm Mon.-Sat., 8am-9pm Sun., deli counter 8am-8pm daily) is a cornerstone of the
community, and their downtown branch (44 E. Main St., 406/922-2667, 8:30am-9pm Mon.-
Sat., 8am-8pm Sun.) is not only convenient but offers an excellent hot bar, salad bar, and
sandwich and smoothie counter. Everything the Co-op does—gourmet and often locally
produced groceries, mouthwatering prepared foods, and a primo coffee shop, juice bar, and
bakery—is done brilliantly. The homemade soups are excellent, as is the salad bar and just
about everything in the sprawling deli case. Exotic hot lunches and dinners are often avail-
able at prices that cannot be matched elsewhere. The Co-op is the place in town for Indian
food (Thurs.).
