In-Depth Information
(321 E. Main St., 406/582-8898, www.pub317.com , 11am-2am daily) is one of the few bars
that hosts running races. Twice each year, the Irish pub sponsors 10K or half-marathons that
end back at the bar. There's usually live Irish music on Sunday, live bluegrass on Tuesday,
and trivia nights on Wednesday.
Popular with the college (and alumni) crowds are the Crystal Bar (123 E. Main St.,
406/587-0272, 11am-2am daily), which serves burgers with a view on the rooftop, and the
Rocking R (211 E. Main St., 406/587-9355, www.rockinrbar.com , 11am-2am daily), a pop-
ular hangout since the 1940s that was destroyed by a 2009 gas explosion and reopened to
much fanfare in 2011.
Theater
For a relatively small Rocky Mountain town, Bozeman has a decent number of theater
offerings. The best is certainly Broad Comedy (406/522-7623, www.broadcomedy.com ),
which produces irreverent and side-splitting satire by a female cast (and geared to mature
audiences only). The company has achieved global recognition and plenty of YouTube fol-
lowers. If you are in town whenever they are performing, be there. Broad Comedy was also
the founders of (and still runs) the highly respected and always full Camp Equinox, an in-
credible theatre experience for kids in summer.
Verge Theater (2304 N. 7th Ave., 406/587-0737, www.vergetheater.com ) has been
around for nearly 20 years (until 2013 as Equinox Theatre Company) and produces eclectic
and original shows, many of which are hilariously funny. The company produces eight main
stage shows each year and six children's matinees. They are also home to the region's only
full-time improv comedy troupe.
There are also shows produced by students at Montana State University (406/
994-3904) and professional theater brought to the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse (1 Bobcat
Circle,
406/994-7117)
through
Broadway
in
Bozeman
(406/994-2287,
www.brickbreeden.com/broadway ) .
One of the state's most beloved troupes, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks (406/
994-3901, www.shakespeareintheparks.org ) is based out of Montana State University and
travels all over the state bringing fantastic, outdoor (when the weather permits), and free
Shakespearean theatre to parks and even cow pastures around the Northern Rockies in
small, underserved communities. The company, which travels around to do school work-
shops in the off-season, has been bringing the bard to the people since 1973. Bill Pullman
is one of the company's most famous alumni. You can always catch of glimpse of them
