While the main draw is the natural splendor and recreational opportunities, as well as
the high probability of good weather to enjoy them, there are a multitude of ways to get to
know this area: The Sweet Pea Festival of the Arts in Bozeman, the Fourth of July Rodeo
in Livingston, and the “Running of the Sheep” in normally sleepy Reed Point show that
south-central Montana is a distinctive blend of the Old West and the new. As the hub of
the region, and the home of Montana State University, Bozeman is an increasingly soph-
isticated mountain town with a welcoming mix of outdoor junkies, old-time cowboys, and
blissed-out transplants.
