Seeley Lake
Hiking and Biking
Among the most popular hiking trails in the region is the Morrell Lake and Falls Trail, a
5-mile round-trip hike on relatively even terrain to a beautiful mountain lake and a series of
towering cascades, the largest of which is 90 feet high. From Seeley Lake, drive north less
than 0.5 mile to Morrell Creek Road (also known as Cottonwood Lakes Rd. or Forest Rd.
477). Turn right (east), drive 1.1 miles to the junction of West Morrell Road, and turn left.
Drive 5.6 miles to another junction and turn right. Drive 0.7 mile to the trailhead. The trail
is well marked and follows the creek to a pond, Morrell Lake, and then the falls.
Mountain biking is permitted on a variety of Forest Service roads and trails, including a
14-mile round-trip ride at the Seeley Creek Nordic Ski Trails. From Highway 83, turn east
onto Morrell Creek Road (also known as Cottonwood Lakes Rd. or Forest Rd. 477) and
drive 1.1 miles to the trailhead on the north side of the road. Bikes can be rented from See-
ley Sport Rentals (3112 Hwy. 83 S., 406/677-3680, www.seeleysportrentals.com , moun-
tain bikes $10 for 4 hours). For more information on Forest Service trails, contact the See-
ley Lake Ranger District (3583 Hwy. 83, 406/677-2233, www.fs.fed.us/r1/lolo ) .
