building was a grocery store in 1939. Everything is made from scratch. For a great beer,
try Glacier Brewing Company (6 10th Ave. E., 406/883-2595, www.glacierbrewing.com ,
3pm-8pm Mon.-Sun.), a German-style ale house serving their own impressive line of beer
and homemade soda. Hours here change with the seasons and without advance notice, but
are posted on their Facebook page.

end of the Flathead Valley, and the Bigfork Area Chamber of Commerce and Visit-

Mon.-Fri., 10am-5pm Sat., noon-4pm Sun. Memorial Day-Labor Day, 10am-2pm Mon.-
Fri. Labor Day-Memorial Day) is open to visitors. They put together a book called 101 Th-
ings to Do in the Flathead Valley, which is available for $5.
GETTING THERE
Nestled between lake and mountains south of Whitefish and north of Missoula, Polson and
Big Fork can be accessed from Highway 93. Polson is 70 miles north of Missoula and 67
miles south of Whitefish. Big Fork is 33 miles north of Polson on Route 35, known as the
East Shore Route.
The Seeley-Swan Valley
Much quieter than Flathead, and nestled in between the magnificent Mission and Swan
mountain ranges, the Seeley-Swan Valley is a remarkable destination. Visitors feel like they
are stepping back in time 50 years or more. There are unlikely to be any towns you've ever
heard of in this valley, and no chain hotels, fast-food restaurants, and interstate highways.
Instead there are pristine lakes and seemingly endless forests, wonderful old lodges, and
