ities.

outdoor heated pool. But for avid swimmers, the only hotel to consider in Missoula
is
Wingate by Wyndham
(5252 Airway Blvd., 406/541-8000 or 866/832-8000,

rooms with an indoor waterpark that will delight little ones with a kiddie pool, froggy slide,
and mushroom waterfall. Bigger kids will like the three-story waterslides.
As a university town with some beautiful old homes, Missoula has an abundance of
appealing B&Bs. One of the best, and right on the river, is a vast 1911 home built for
the University of Montana's president. Since then, the home has been a fraternity, a lab,
and an office. But now it is the wonderful
Goldsmith's Inn
(803 E. Front St., 866/
666-9945,
www.goldsmithsinn.com
, $124-169), a charming turn-of-the-20th-century bed-
and-breakfast within easy walking distance of the university and downtown. Much smal-
ler but equally inviting is the dog-friendly
Blossom's Bed & Breakfast
(1114 Poplar St.,
406/721-4690,
www.blossomsbnb.com
,
$130-170), a 1910 Craftsman gem not far from
the trails of the Rattlesnake Recreation Area and Wilderness. Nestled on a mountainside
outside of town is

(6980 Deadman Gulch Rd., 406/
251-4457 or 877/251-4457,
www.bluemountainbb.com
, $105-155), a tranquil spot where
you can explore nature and even bring your own horse. By far the most dramatic B&B
in town is the four-room

www.gibsonmansion.com
,
$125-225), designed and built in 1903 by architect A. J. Gibson,
who was responsible for many of the buildings on the university campus. The period details
are spot-on, the gardens exquisite, and the breakfasts decadent.
