Fort Missoula
Originally established to protect settlers against Indian attacks, Fort Missoula (3400 Cap-
tain Rawn Way, www.fortmissoulamuseum.org , 406/728-3476, 10am-5pm Mon.-Sat.,
noon-5pm Sun. summer, noon-5pm Tues.-Sun. winter, $3 adults, $1 students, $2 seniors,
$10 family, free for children under 6) was never used for its intended purpose. When no at-
tacks occurred, the fort was used to house the African American 25th Infantry in 1888 and
as an alien detention center for Italian Americans and Japanese Americans during World
War II. The museum houses exhibits about the fort's history as well as rotating historical
exhibits. The fort grounds are open year-round and admission is free. Although the mu-
