In-Depth Information
As is true of the state in general, western Montana is a slice of paradise for outdoor en-
thusiasts. From the sublime Flathead Lake in the north with its boating, fishing, and unbeat-
able swimming and the nearby Jewel Basin, famous for hiking, huckleberries, and grizzly
bears, to the Rattlesnake National Recreation Area and Wilderness just outside Missoula
and the phenomenally rugged Bitterroot Mountains in the south, this corner of the state,
some 12,000 square miles of diverse and magnificent habitat, is for many the embodiment
of the Wild West and the Montana dream brought to life.
