St. Mary Lake
One of the most photographed lakes in the park for its absurdly beautiful mountain back-
drop, St. Mary Lake is among the best places in Glacier to watch the sun rise. The lake and
its many hiking trails are accessible from Going-to-the-Sun Road. The Sun Point Nature
Trail is 1.4 miles round-trip, and the trailhead is 9.5 miles west of the St. Mary Visitor
Center. It is worth the short walk for views of Baring Falls and the lake itself. An even
quicker stop is Sunrift Gorge, 0.6 mile west of Sun Point, an incredible cascade slicing
between two rock walls; it is just 200 feet from the parking area. Baring Falls is another
0.3-mile walk down the trail.
MM Many Glacier
The Many Glacier region is a palpable reminder of why Glacier has long been known as
the Switzerland of America. Marked by grand accommodations and a landscape that was
