CAMPING
Glacier has 13 front-country campgrounds with more than 1,000 sites, at least some of
which are open May-mid-October. With the exception of St. Mary and Fish Creek, all
campgrounds are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with nightly fees ranging
$10-23. You'll increase your chances of finding a site by showing up earlier in the day and
by scheduling your trip midweek rather than on the weekend. An excellent page on the Na-
tional Park Service website ( www.nps.gov/applications/glac ) shows updated availability at
campsites across the park. Apgar ($20) is the largest campground, with 194 sites; followed
by Fish Creek ($23), with 178 sites; St. Mary ($23), with 146 sites; and Many Glacier
($20) with 110 sites. For advance reservations at Fish Creek or St. Mary, contact the Na-
tional Park Reservation System (877/444-6777, www.recreation.gov ).
