Food
The best local food, including buffalo, deer, and elk, is served in traditional style for guests
only at the Lodge Pole Gallery and Tipi Village (U.S. 89, 2 miles west of Browning,
406/338-2787, www.blackfeetculturecamp.com , $18-30). If sleeping in a hand-painted tipi
weren't cool enough already, the Native cuisine is more than worth the trip. Memorial
Day-Labor Day, the Aspenwood Resort also offers dining to the public in their Outlaw
Grill (U.S. 89, 9.5 miles west of Browning, 406/338-3009, www.aspenwoodresort.com ,
8am-11am and 1pm-close daily, $7-20). The Outlaw Grill offers standard fare ranging from
fluffy pancakes to sandwiches, salads, and steaks.
Right in town, the Junction Café and Drive Inn (Starr School Rd., 406/338-2386,
7am-9pm Mon.-Fri., $3-17) is locally owned and serves up hearty breakfasts of corned beef
hash, breakfast burritos, and biscuits and gravy, as well as hamburgers and steaks. With usu-
ally only one server and a local clientele, the restaurant is very friendly. Don't be surprised
if a neighboring diner offers to refill your coffee cup.
Another very friendly local restaurant where everything is made from scratch is Family
Tradition (200 N. Piegan St., 406/338-4109, 7am-3:30pm Mon.-Fri., $7-9). The
homemade soups draw the locals, as does the fried sweetbreads special. In a sign of the
times, Family Tradition even posts their daily specials on Facebook.
