Shopping
You will find limited shopping on Provo, most in a complex
called Ports of Call, designed to resemble an old Caribbean
seaside town. Look for restaurants, crafts and art in this new
development near Grace Bay.
Conch shells (pronounced Konk) make a wonderful souvenir
from these islands. Stop by the Conch Farm on Provo to pur-
chase a beautiful shell; you'll also find some large piles next to
several island bars where you can stop and make an inexpen-
sive purchase.
For Caribbean art, check out the Bamboo Gallery on Provo,
an excellent gallery that's been featured in many newspaper
and magazine articles. Here you'll find Haitian, Jamaican, and
even some Turks and Caicos artwork. Near Ports of Call, Mai-
son Creole also has magnificent artwork with crafts from
Haiti and other Caribbean islands.
Nightlife
Nightlife is somewhat limited in the Turks and Caicos because
of the islands' secluded atmosphere and because scuba divers,
after a day in the sun and sea, are ready to hit the sack early
and prepare for another day underwater. The two of you will
find a few good options, though.
Try your luck at the Port Royale Casino,
649-946-5508, at
the Allegro Resort in Provo. The nation's only casino has plenty
of action, including over 100 slot machines, Caribbean stud
poker, roulette, blackjack, craps, and more.
The hottest dance spot on the island, Erebus Inn,
649-946-
4240, is popular with both locals and vacationers. The outdoor
club blasts live music under the stars late into the night.
Every night of the week you can find live music at one location.
Look to these nightspots for live music on some nights:
Club Med-Turkoise ,
649-946-5500. We recently
bought a night pass at this all-inclusive; you buy
tickets for drinks. They have dancing and an eve-
ning show.
