$$$-$$$$
Trés chic, this full-service resort consists of 75 West Indian style
cottages, each brightly colored and overlooking the sea.
Guanahani is the Arawak name for San Salvador, the first is-
land discovered by Christopher Columbus.
The hotel, set on a 16-acre peninsula on the northeastern side of
the island, offers two tennis courts lit for night play (a tennis
pro is also on hand if you want to improve your game), two
freshwater pools and a heated hot tub. It's hard for pools to com-
pete with Guanahani's two beaches, however. Here guests can
go snorkeling, sail a Hobie Cat, windsurf, or go deep-sea fish-
ing. One beach is located on a quiet lagoon and the other at the
edge of a coconut grove facing the ocean. Complimentary conti -
nental breakfast is included as well as round-trip airport trans -
fers, service and tax charges.
Special Features/Activities: beach, gourmet restaurant,
watersports, tennis, two main pools, two bars.
Tables for Two
Dining is as much an adventure on St. Barts as watersports or
hiking. The island has earned a reputation as the “French cui-
sine capital of the Caribbean.” Expect these meals to set you
back at least US $50 per person in most cases, and sometimes
much more.
