Just the Facts
Entry Requirements: Visitors from the US, UK, or Canada
need their passport or proof of citizenship: either a certified
birth certificate or voter registration card and a photo ID.
Getting Around: Taxis are the easiest mode of travel and can
be obtained at any resort. Look for red PPV license plates; these
indicate legitimate taxis. Agree on the price with the driver be-
fore you depart.
Rental cars are pricey, and are available from most major rental
companies. You must be 25 years of age to rent a car and also
show a valid driver's license and a major credit card. The speed
limit is 30 mph in town and 50 mph on the highways, but be
warned: Jamaica has some wild drivers! We've often seen two
cars passing an auto at the same time. On top of that, you'll be
driving on the left side of the road and dealing with round-
abouts at every intersection.
Language: English
Currency: Jamaican dollar, fluctuates with the US dollar.
Electricity : 110 volts
