In-Depth Information
It seems like a strange career path, from accountant to restaurateur, but it's almost a
continuation of the diverse journey of Nazareth's early career choices. Growing up she had
a passion for journalism but found herself detouring from that. “When I got to university,
God knows why, I enrolled in System Engineering,” she laughs. As her course neared com-
pletion, she had no desire to go through with graduating but didn't see any value in throw-
ing away all that work. Her mother advised her to pull out immediately and find something
that would make her happier. Searching for a path that would make use of some of her pre-
vious study, Nazareth ended up studying business administration and marketing.
“When I graduated I found out that I could only find jobs working as somebody else's
assistant,” she recalls. “I told myself, 'I didn't study so many years to just be somebody's
assistant!' I wanted another career where I could be my own boss.” It was after this rev-
elation that accounting appeared on her radar. “I have always liked everything related to
numbers, math and that sort of thing” she says. “I decided to study Public Accounting.”
Her brother, local attorney Henry Gomez, suggested she open an office in Quepos.
“I told my brother,' How can I open an office when I don't even have money for a
computer?' At first, I did all my work on a calculator.” She smiles gratefully when she re-
calls her brother buying her first computer and sharing office space with her.
