He appreciates that a booming disco is not everyone's idea of entertainment, but he
also knows it's an untapped market in the area. While the number of family tourists has
increased over the years, there is still a steady flow of spring break students and young
people coming to learn Spanish. For the likes of them, Cuban Republik is a great release
for their energy. “It's something crazy,” Jarris admits. “It's a place where you can't even
talk. It's a small place where there are 200 or 300 people, they can barely move, and that's
what people like. That's why I open two to three days a week — to kind of save energy for
that moment.”
“Republik disco is always a fun time,“ says Alvaro Baltodano Ramirez, local reserva-
tionist at Tulemar Bungalows and Villas. “It is well kept, has a friendly staff, great music
and cold A/C. I especially enjoy their Latin Night.“
To keep it interesting, Cuban Republik has a variety of regular club nights and special
events. Typically Thursday is Latin night which brings out the dancers, while Friday is of-
ten Ladies Night, with subsidized drinks or prizes for the girls. Saturday is party night,
usually along a different theme. “We sometimes do a Neon Electric party,” Jarris explains.
“We've done fancy stuff like hiring body painters or hosting Brazilian dancers.” They also
celebrate occasions like Republik's anniversary, Halloween, and New Year's. Halloween is
