“Letty arrived with a white guitar and everyone was talking about it.” Vera went to check
out their act, and when there was an opportunity, invited them to play at Dos Locos.
“In the early days, I would be the only person here, sitting alone at my table. But I
said, 'I want this,' so I would sit here every week. And then we got two people, and then
three, and pretty soon it would fill up. But our success is primarily due to Lance and Letty
hanging in there,” says Vera. Now Dos Locos is crowded on Wednesday nights when the
band is playing, and it's not unusual to see couples young and old dancing as the band
pumps out crowd favorites. The Pura Vida Social Club plays every Saturday afternoon.
One particular Saturday the band begins to play a familiar Jimmy Buffet favorite of
Vera's. They invite her to join them and soon she's singing, “Mother, Mother Ocean. I have
heard you call…”
Mike Auvil, owner of La Posada Private Jungle Bungalows brings his guests to Dos
Locos nearly every Wednesday for the music. “It's the only restaurant and bar in this area
that has supported our wonderful local musicians for the nine years I've lived here. It's my
favorite night out and as many times as I hear Ben Jammin' and the Howlers, I always get
caught up in the fun vibe there. Not to mention the margaritas…”
“It's the place to go to share “Buena Vibra” (good vibes), singing, laughing, being with
friends, watching people go by, eating well and feeling the delightful breeze,” says conci-
erge at Manuel Antonio Vacation Properties, Estela Ramirez Arias. “Gracias, Vera!”
Another popular attraction at Dos Locos is their Thinkin' and Drinkin' Trivia Nite,
which won the bar 'Best Weekly Event.' The band mentioned to Vera that there was a quiz
night being held at another local establishment and maybe she should consider a 'Trivial
Pursuit' event at Dos Locos.
“Isaid, 'What the heck isthat?'” Vera laughs. Letty Andersontookcare ofthe research
and local personalities took turns hosting the quiz, which has become quite popular. The

— it's because I'm surrounded by wonderful people.”
