“It's not what I like. That would be a big mistake,” says Ana Lorena Madrigal of Regalame
Gift Shop and Art Gallery. She is emphatic; “Sometimes what I like, other people don't,
so, I have to carry a little bit of everything to attract a wide audience. It's about what other
people like.” What other people seem to like for certain is the wealth of locally sourced art
and craftworks that are collected at Regalame.
The gallery is affiliated with the Si Como No Hotel located next door. The hotel owner
and general manager, Jim Damalas, came to Manuel Antonio more than 25 years ago on a
camping trip. Formerly a Hollywood art director and producer, he fell in love with the area
— a love affair that continues to this day.
The art gallery and gift shop was the vision of former Manager, Lorraine Champagne,
around 1989. She dreamed of place distinctly Costa Rican that showcased national artists'
work and allowed visitors and locals alike an opportunity to own some of the beautiful
pieces that were produced. Lorraine pitched the idea of an art gallery and souvenir shop to
Jim, then began a three year search for just the right contributors, a search that Ana contin-
ues in her role as manager.
