In-Depth Information
The final days of construction were the worst, as they were relying on an annual extra-
high tide to launch the catamaran. That gave them a very narrow window of opportunity.
“If we couldn't do it in those three days we lost all that work and we had to see what else
we could do to get the boat in the water,” Jose says. The boat wasn't ready on the first two
days and they finally managed to launch it on the third and final tide. “As soon as that boat
got in the water, it became my responsibility,” Jose says with a good natured smile. “It was
time for, 'Jose, OK — what are you going to do?' Now that we have our big Ocean King,
we need clients.”
Clients are something Jose knows, and so it's only natural that he heads up marketing
for Ocean King, running both their San Jose marketing office and the local promotions.
“I've always believed this kind of business needs to be in a big market,” he says. “We need
a lot of people, we need groups to continue with the business. So I decided to create a mar-
keting office in San Jose to push harder, to offer our product to all the city's hotels, to all
the tour operators, to all the agencies, and of course to all the Costa Rican people who live
here. So we try to combine both markets; the international one and the people who live in
Costa Rica.”
