RONNY'S PLACE
RONNY ALPIZAR
The sky broke like an egg into full sunset and the water caught fire.
Pamela Hansford Johnson
The restaurant and bar at the top of the hill was originally called 'Mi Lugar' — My Place —
but not many know it as that now. “People who know me from the area, locals or foreigners,
started saying, 'Let's go to Ronny's, let's go visit Ronny,'” says owner Ronny Alpizar. His
exuberant smile and warm personality make it no surprise that people are drawn to his res-
taurant. “I had to add Ronny's Place to the original name,” he says. “I'm okay with that.”
Ronny's Place grew in part out of Ronny's upbringing in the food and hospitality busi-
ness. “I always had some kind of relationship with food and drinks,” he says. Growing up,
his family owned a bar and it was there that he learned to love making people happy with
good service and a great environment. “I think that was when I first had the desire to do
something like this - interacting and dealing with people. It's nice to be surrounded by folks
and trying to do things for them,” he says.
That idea of making people happy is important to Ronny. “I try to give everyone a good
experience — more than just providing food, drinks and a bill,” he says. Ronny had worked
for a number of years in the hotel industry, and noted how the businesses became less per-
sonal as they grew in size. He wanted something that would be successful but still personal,
and Mi Lugar was the answer.
