This is so that its length is inside the wall and its flange rests against
the wall's surface. The anchor is then lightly tapped with the butt of
a screwdriver to seat it and prevent it from turning in the hole. The
screw is then turned clockwise with a screwdriver.
As the screw is turned, it draws the collar end of the anchor
toward the flange end. Four slots cut lengthwise into the tube al-
low the sections of the tube between the slots to bend outward in
response to pressure from the collar until they lie flat against the
inside surface of the wall, drawing the flange tightly against the out-
side surface and locking the anchor securely in place. The screw is
then removed, inserted through whatever object is to be fastened,
and replaced in the anchor body, an action that can be performed
repeatedly without loosening the anchor body.
Hollow wall screw anchors are also manufactured with pointed
screws and tapered threaded collars. These can be driven into the
