Figure 20-15: With the Surface Editor open, it's easy to pick which surface you want
the fur applied to.
11. Open the Objects Properties panel.
Click on the Deform tab and choose
SasLite from the menu. Double-click
on it to edit the parameters. The first
thing we need to do is make sure that
this instance will only be applied to one
of the colors (surfaces) on the rug. So,
at the top, click in the box to enable
Apply fur only to named surface .
12. When you do, the Surface Name(s) text
field will be enabled. Pick a surface
from the Surface Editor, and type that
name into the field. I'm going to use
RugStar . If I type it correctly and hit
the < Ta b > key, the little green num-
bers will now read 1/3. If they say 0/3,
check your typing.
(The first number tells you how many sur-
faces are using this instance of SasLite. The
second tells how many surfaces there are in
this object.)
Figure 20-16: Check the numbers to
make sure that you typed correctly.
13. Pick a Fiber Color that goes with the
star. I'm choosing yellow. (If you pick a
color that's similar to the surface color,
you can get away with less density,
which saves rendering time.)
14. Now it's time to tweak the fibers in the
rug. I'm setting Bright & Hue Vary
quite low ( 5% ) because I don't want
much variation in the yarn colors used.
Diffuse is high, and Specular and Gloss-
iness low because it's yarn, and I don't
want it to be shiny. Coarseness is high,
because yarn tends to be fairly thick.
