In-Depth Information
should build quad cages. We did that at the
start by creating an edge loop out of four
distinct splines and then expanding and
dividing the cage from there. We now need
to create an even larger edge loop that
encompasses most of what we've built so
far. We'll do this by building a new quad
cage.
19. In the Right viewport, create a number
of points along the profile of the back-
ground image. These points should run
from the top of the forehead to the top
of the upper lip. Select the points in
sequence and create a spline similar to
the one shown in Figure 14-28. This
will become the left spline of a quad
cage (see Tip #2).
Note
The number of points you'll need to create
the spline in Step 19 will depend on the ref-
erence image you're using. (I created nine
new points and used three existing ones,
giving me a total of 12 points in my spline.)
Ultimately, the number doesn't matter so
long as you have enough to capture the
basic shape. Keep in mind that you can
always add points to a spline by using the
Multiply | Subdivide | Add Points tool and
you can delete them by simply selecting the
point and hitting the Delete key.
20. Add a single point as shown in Figure
14-29. Place it above the eye and in
between the profile spline and the
spline extending from the center of our
eye edge loop. Then select the points
in order and create a
new spline. This will
become the top of our
quad cage.
