In-Depth Information
Reduce Edges
The Reduce Edges tool ( Detail | Edges |
Reduce Edges ) will remove the selected
edge and collapse the edges that support it.
(The supporting edges are those that run
perpendicular to the edge you're reducing.)
This tool works wonders for cleaning up
problematic areas of your mesh.
To reduce an edge, select the control
point on the edge that you'd like to remove.
You'll see a preview of the effect. To accept
this, right-click or press the <Return> key.
Note
Reducing and removing edges can easily
lead to non-planar polygons. Be sure to
keep a watchful eye on your Statistics panel
when using these tools.
Note
If you right-click, the Reduce Edges tool will
remain active, allowing you to quickly
reduce multiple edges in your object.

Remove Edges
The Remove Edges tool ( Detail | Edges |
Remove Edges ) does exactly what its
name implies — it removes edges from
your object.
To remove an edge, simply click on its
associated control point. As with the
Reduce Edges tool, right-clicking allows
you to accept the elimination and continue
removing edges from your object.
Note
The Remove Edges tool will remove edges,
but in certain cases it won't remove the
points associated with those edges. Switch to
Wireframe view to ensure that no stray
points are left in your object.
