3.
In the Top viewport, select the points
as shown in Figure 5-8. When used
with points, the Bridge tool attempts to
“connect the dots” in the order in
which they were selected. We'll use
the Bridge tool to cut a diamond shape
into the top and bottom of our cube.
From the Construct | Combine menu
choose the Bridge tool (or use the
< l > keyboard shortcut).
4.
You'll notice that the points are now
connected to form a diamond shape.
Let's Bridge the top and bottom dia-
monds to create a tunnel through the
center of our cube. Move your mouse
to the Top viewport, hold the < Shift >
key down, and select the point at the
center of our diamond. Go to the View
| Selection | More menu and choose
Select Polygons . This transforms our
point selection into a polygon selection.
5.
Run the Bridge tool once again. Lastly,
select the lone point at the center of
the diamond (it's no longer attached to
anything) and delete it.
Note
By selecting the points in the Top viewport,
we were able to select the points on both
ends of the box at the same time. This saved
us the trouble of selecting the top points,
connecting them with the Bridge tool, then
repeating the process for the bottom points.
This is just a quick sample of what the
Bridge tool can do. Once you get a feel for
it, you'll find that the Bridge tool can be
used for a variety of cool effects.
Figure 5-9
Figure 5-10: Connecting a character's hand and arm can be easily accomplished by
creating a poly at the end of the arm and hand, then running the Bridge tool.
