Getting There & Away
Tuatapere is 100km south of Te Anau, a drive of around 1ΒΌ hours. Invercargill, to the south-
east, is 85km away, which takes just over an hour.
Being somewhat off the beaten track, the town is currently only serviced by

between Te Anau and Tuatapere during the peak tramping season (mid-December to late
April; one way/return $50/95).

Any trip to Stewart Island/Rakiura inevitably includes a stopover in Invercargill, the south-
ernmost city in NZ. Although not as tourism-oriented as many other South Island towns, In-
vercargill can meet your needs for accommodation, restaurants, transport and a cold beer at
the end of a tramp. This is where you'll want to stock up on supplies before heading to
Rakiura.
