landowners. An amazing effort on all fronts saw the track open in 2001, as NZ's first and
only privately operated independent tramp on public land.
If you want to complete the entire circuit and stay in both huts, the track must be tramped
anticlockwise, with the first night at Okaka Lodge. If you are not interested in climbing
Hump Ridge, a night at Port Craig Village makes a wonderful and easy coastal walk.
