8 Getting There & Away
Air New Zealand ( 0800 737 000; www.airnz.co.nz ) has daily direct flights between Queen-
stown and Auckland and Christchurch, with onward domestic connections.
There are myriad bus options, most of which can be booked at the i-SITE, including In-
terCity ( 03-442 4922; www.intercity.co.nz ) , NZ's largest bus network servicing all significant
South Island destinations. Naked Bus ( www.nakedbus.com ) travels to the West Coast, Te
Anau, Christchurch, Dunedin, Cromwell, Wanaka and Invercargill. Atomic Shuttles
( www.atomictravel.co.nz ) connects Queenstown with Christchurch, Dunedin, Wanaka and
Greymouth. Smaller transport operators include Bottom Bus ( www.bottombus.co.nz ) , which
does a loop of the south of the South Island; and Wanaka Connexions
( www.alpinecoachlines.co.nz ) , which links Queenstown with Wanaka, as does twice-daily Con-
nectabus ( 0800 405 066; cnr Beach & Camp Sts) .

A picturesque hamlet at the head of Lake Wakatipu, about 47km from Queenstown, Glen-
orchy has a limited choice of places to stay and eat. You can get supplies, but the choice is
restricted to what is sold at the camping grounds and hotel. Better to outfit your tramp and
hire necessary equipment in Queenstown.

from Glenorchy, this is a great place to unwind or prepare for a tramp. It has comfy, colour-
ful rooms, a hot tub, and on-site restaurant and bar. Also on offer is secure parking and track
