Fox Glacier is 23km from Franz Josef Glacier, around halfway between Franz and the trail-
head for the Welcome Flat track. It is the quieter of the two towns, and a gateway to the ex-
tremely photogenic Lake Matheson ( www.lakematheson.com ) , with its gorgeous walkway and
delightful cafe.
