HUTS & CAMPING
There are six huts along the Old Ghost Road, two of which - Goat Creek and Mokihinui
Stern Valley and Specimen Point - are managed by the Mokihinui-Lyell Backcountry Trust

and must be booked in advance via its online booking system.
Three of these Trust huts (Stern Valley excluded) have two four-person sleep-outs suitable
for families and privacy-seekers. All huts have bunks, mattresses, toilets and rainwater sup-
ply, but no cooking facilities.
Camping is permitted anywhere along the track, as well as at Lyell, where there is a
donville Holiday Park

which makes excellent use of an old schoolhouse and grounds.

Getting to/from the Tramp
Lyell campsite is 50 minutes' drive (62km) east of Westport, right on SH6 along the scenic
Buller Gorge. Seddonville, at the northern end of the track, is 45 minutes' drive (50km)
north of Westport, a walkable 1.5km off the main road, SH67.
Because this track is new, tramper transport services weren't yet bedded down at the time
of writing. However, as both the Old Ghost Road trailheads are passed by tramper shuttles
for the Heaphy Track you will have no trouble hooking on to their services, which are reas-
onably regular in season.
