Alpine Lodge

range of accommodation including a separate backpackers (dorm/double $29/69), which is
spartan but clean and warm. The snug in-house restaurant and bar has mountain views and
dishes up good food (meals $16 to $29).

St Arnaud Alpine Village Store
( 8am-6pm, takeaways 4.30-8pm Fri & Sat, daily Dec-Feb; ) The settlement's only general
store sells groceries, petrol, beer, possum-wool socks, tramping food, sandwiches, pies and
milkshakes, with the fish and chips cranking up on weekends and daily in peak season ($6
to $10).
8 Getting There & Away
Nelson Lakes Shuttles ( Click here ) links St Arnaud with Nelson on a scheduled service
December to April (Monday, Wednesday and Friday; $45), and on demand the rest of the
year (per person $45, minimum four people). It will also collect/drop off at Kawatiri Junc-
tion on SH63, to meet other bus services heading between Nelson and the West Coast (per
person $25, minimum two people). It also offers services from St Arnaud through to Picton/
Blenheim ($50/45).
