Climbs
Once you get a couple of good hills under your belt, you'll be away laughing, which is good
because NZ's back country offers up some lofty but achievable summits.
Mueller Hut Route Yes, it's a 1040m climb, but this is a quintessential alpine experience,
packing in geological wonders, fascinating plant life and an amazing hut. ( Click here )
Lake Angelus Track Yes, the zigzag up Pinchgut Track is a bit of a rude awakening, but
the views along Mt Robert Ridge last the rest of the day. ( Click here )
Tableland Circuit OK, so maybe it is an 855m climb from the car park to Mt Arthur's bald
peak, but the epic panorama from Tasman Bay to the Southern Alps is worth every step.

Avalanche Peak Granted, it is a pretty grunty 1093m clamber up to the peak, but these Ar-
thur's Pass views rival those of Tongariro Alpine Crossing - still NZ's best day walk?

Rivers
NZ's rivers are in the spotlight, sometimes looking a sorry sight and at other times stealing
the show. Whichever way you look at it, NZ's rivers define the land, and its people.
Whanganui Journey This 'Great Walk' is actually a 145km paddle down NZ's longest
navigable river, through the deep wilds of Whanganui National Park. ( Click here )
Pelorus Track So scenic it starred in The Hobbit, the gorgeous Pelorus - a boulder-lined
gorge with deep green pools - is followed for two days of this three-day tramp. ( Click here )
