Summary This track crosses the Kaiuma and Nydia Saddles and follows the sheltered
shoreline of Nydia Bay, the historic site of a long-gone sawmilling settlement.
Completed in 1979, most of the Nydia Track follows old bridle paths through a variety of
environments, including virgin forest and farmland. At one point in the early 1900s, steam-
powered haulers dragged logs over a saddle into Nydia Bay, the site of a large mill and a
300m wharf. It's two short and easy days to complete this tramp, allowing you plenty of
time to pause and appreciate the magnificence of the Marlborough Sounds.
