TOP OF CHAPTER
Wellington
04 / POP 199,200
NZ's capital is windy, wonderfully arty and wall-to-wall with restaurants, cafes and bars.
It's also green and hilly, which will be welcome news to visiting trampers, and is a major
travel crossroads, being the northern port of interisland ferry services.
4 Sleeping & Eating
There's no shortage of good accommodation in the downtown area, including at the budget
end, where a few good hostels keep things keenly priced. There's plenty of great food, too -
head to Cuba St and Courtenay Place for the highest density.
