WHEN TO TRAMP
Summer and autumn are the best times. In November and early December heavy rain and
low clouds can make travel difficult. Be aware that river levels can rise rapidly, so be pre-
pared to wait things out or turn back if the Waipakihi River starts cranking.
WHAT TO BRING
The weather in the park is extremely changeable, so trampers should be prepared for wet,
cold weather whenever they visit. You will also need a cooker. As giardia may be present,
bring sufficient fuel to boil your drinking water, or some other form of purifier.
