The national park is well serviced by shuttle operators, including Taupo-based Tongariro
Expeditions ( 0800 828 763; www.tongariroexpeditions.com ) , Turangi-based Turangi Alpine
Shuttles ( 0272 322 135, 07-386 8226; www.turangirentals.co.nz ) and Whakapapa Vil-
lage-based Roam ( 021 588 734, 0800 762 612; www.roam.net.nz ) . Some other shuttle operat-

book your stay.
Note that the Base Camp, on the SH47 between Turangi and National Park, is a popular
pick-up point where you can either park for the day, or stay overnight at the pleasant
Tongariro Family Holiday Park ( 07-386 8062; www.thp.co.nz; sites from $18, cabins $60-160;
) , although you can only use its facilities if you are staying there.
Sample shuttle prices are $35 from Turangi to Whakapapa, and $35 to $40 return for the
Tongariro Alpine Crossing (from Base Camp or Whakapapa to Mangatepopo and return
from Ketatahi). Be sure to book your shuttle in advance to avoid being stranded.
