As a whole, the Dominican Republic is quite open about heterosexual sex and sexuality, but still fairly
closed-minded about gays and lesbians. Gay and lesbian travelers will find the most open community in
Santo Domingo, though even its gay clubs are relatively discreet. Santiago, Puerto Plata, Bávaro and Punta
Cana also have gay venues, catering as much to foreigners as to locals. Everywhere else, open displays of
affection between men are fairly taboo, between women less so. Same sex couples shouldn't have trouble
