Eating & Drinking
Barahona has a few decent restaurants, but you won't stretch your tastebud limits here.
Most of the drinking takes place in bars and restaurants along the waterfront on Av En-
riquillo, centered around dueling open-air watering holes Junior's (cnr Nuestra Senora del
Rosario & Av Enriquillo; mains RD$200-800; 10am-midnight Sun-Thu, to 2am Fri & Sat) and La
Pompa (cnr Nuestra Senora del Rosario & Av Enriquillo;
10am-midnight) .
DOMINICAN $
Restaurant Pizzería D'Lina
(Av 30 de Mayo 11; mains RD$125-400; 7am- midnight) This is your requisite Dominican
cheapie which caters to a loyal clientele who come for simple home-cooked food. It's cer-
tainly not friendly, but cheap sandwiches (RD$70 to RD$175), decent pizza and various
meat, chicken and seafood dishes - try the lambi (conch) a la vinaigrette - are served on a
pleasant and breezy palapa-topped patio.
Brisas del Caribe
(Carretera Batey Central; mains RD$275-750; 8am-11pm) The kitchen here dishes out fresh sea-
food as the seasons dictate (though the seasons sometimes affect consistency as well). The
perfectly sized seafood soup appetizer (RD$150) has more seafood than broth; and the
fish medallions al ajillo (RD$350) are tasty as well, though not medallions.
SEAFOOD $$
Supermercado H y M
(cnr Peña Gómez & Padre Billini; 8am-8:30pm Mon-Sat, to 1pm Sun) Stock up on rations for
travels further south at Supermercado H y M.

PLANNING
Fifteen kilometers south of Paraíso (and 54km south of Barahona) is the typical Dominican town of
Enriquillo, notable for having the last few hotels and gas station until Pedernales, some 82km away.
