outdoor seating just before the green monstrosity of the Hotel Montechico. Buoys and
fishing nets hang from the indoor dining room ceiling, befitting its maritime theme and
seafood-focused menu.

workers popularize this sleek, contemporary place across the street from the grocery of

Everything you'll need is on or within a block or two of Calle Duarte, including a phar-
macy and BanReservas with ATM on Duarte, next to the post office. The modest Hospital
Padre Fantino (
24hr) is two blocks north of Calle Duarte.

Getting There & Away
Hwy 1 enters Monte Cristi from the east, where it turns into Calle Duarte and becomes the
main east-west road through town. Av Mella becomes Hwy 45 to Dajabón, which is now
fully paved.
Caribe Tours ( 809-579-2129; cnr Mella & Carmargo) has a depot a block north of Calle
Duarte. Buses to Santo Domingo (RD$350, 4½ hours) leave at 7:30am, 8:30am, 10am,
1:45pm, 3pm and 4pm, with a stop in Santiago (RD$190, 2¼ hours).
The Expreso Liniero guagua terminal is on Calle Duarte near the eastern entrance to
town; it goes to Dajabón (RD$50, 40 minutes, every 20 minutes from 7:30am to 10pm).
