Transportation in town is dominated by
motoconchos,
who will attempt to charge you two
to three times the price you'd pay for a similar ride in Puerto Plata. Don't be surprised if
you can't haggle them down. A ride out to Kite Beach should cost RD$50 and Playa En-
cuentro RD$100.
SCOOTER
A popular option is to rent a scooter or a motorcycle. Expect to pay around US$20 per
day, less if you rent for a week or more. There are lots of rental shops along the main
drag, and some hotels rent two-wheeled transportation too. Be aware that helmets are
pretty much nonexistent in this country, so if that's important to you consider bringing
your own.
TAXI
cost RD$250 to Encuentro, US$35 to Aeropuerto Internacional Gregorío Luperón 18km
west, and US$35 to Puerto Plata. For the Santiago airport it's around US$100. There's
also a taxi stand in the middle of town.
