The surfing high season is the kitesurfing low season. While there are winds year round,
the best months for the latter are July, August and the beginning of September. February
can be a good month, and though December is crowded, the winds aren't the most consist-
ent.
Whether you spend your day lounging on the beach or pursuing a more athletic en-
deavor, it's worth considering a therapeutic visit to N Day Spa MAP GOOGLE MAP (

Parque Nacional El Choco
Part of the park, the caves of Cabarete are walking distance from town. Here you can take
a two-hour tour (US$15; 9am-3:30pm) of a number of privately managed caves and the
surrounding forest. Bring a swimsuit - the crystal-stalactite caves 25m below the surface
offer two opportunities to swim in small clear pools, provided the guide can still see you
with his flashlight.
Kitesurfing
Cabarete is one of the top places in the world for kitesurfing, which long ago eclipsed
windsurfing as the town's sport du jour . Kite Beach, 2km west of town, has ideal condi-
tions for the sport, which entails strapping yourself to a modified surfboard and a huge in-
flatable wind foil, then skimming and soaring across the water. Bozo Beach at the west
