In-Depth Information
It's more compact and less sprawling than other Playa Dorada options and the spa and
food, especially the stand-alone Asian fusion Jade Garden (non-guests can eat here; mains
RD$650), are a step up from its competitors.
RESORT $$$
Iberostar Costa Dorada
( 809-320-1000; www.iberostar.com ; Costa Dorada; all-incl s/d US$135/165; ) One of
the better-value all-inclusives in the region, Iberostar receives its fair share of repeat cus-
tomers. There is a certain Disneyland cheesiness about the place - you'll be greeted at re-
ception by a porter wearing a pith helmet, for instance - but the grounds are enormous and
well kept, the pool is immense, and the food better than average.
Getting There & Around
The Playa Dorada taxi association charges many times the price you'd pay if you hailed a
taxi on the street. Their taxis can be found at any of the hotel entrances and also in front of
Playa Dorada Plaza. A ride to the airport will cost you US$33, to SosĂșa US$35, to Cab-
arete US$40, and within the hotel complex US$10; to Puerto Plata US$7.
Or you can walk to hotel complex's entrance on the highway and hail down a guagua to
Puerto Plata (RD$20).
