well. The house-specialty steak tartare (RD$520) and pastis-flambéed shrimp (RD$490)
do not disappoint, and the friendly couple do their hardest to ensure satisfaction. (Except
for the smoking).

(Calle 27 de Febrero; mains RD$270-490; noon-11:30am; ) The local's pick for best Italian is
indeed a great little spot for risotto and fresh seafood, though the ambience won't floor
you - waitresses in sailor hats (overly cutesy but extra friendly) and a questionable mari-
time tiki motif might raise eyebrows. A rundown of the daily recommendations is given
via a traveling chalkboard.

(Calle Libertad; pizzas RD$210-350; 6pm-midnight Wed-Mon) Service leaves mucho to be de-
sired but the Italian owners turn out the best pizza in town, with a few tables right on the

Las Terrenas may feel like a Franco-Italian enclave, but it's a Swiss-German trio that of-
fers the area's top dining experience. Daniel, Lilo and Flo ensure your culinary ride here is
a doozy: everything is made fresh on the premises and served in a romantic whitewashed
colonial-style courtyard, open to the stars and complete with a trickling fountain.
Some molecular gastronomy creeps into the food here (Angus beef with olive oil foam,
for example) but it's really all about fresh, simple flavors seasoned perfectly. A variety of
tasting menus are available to suit all appetites. The weekly-changing chef's menu (three/
four-course RD$1650/2150) is the way to go.
TOUTS
If you are driving yourself to El Limón, beware of motoconcho touts who will pull up alongside your
vehicle and try to persuade you to go to a parada that pays them a commission. Keep driving.
