Hotel La Loma
( 809-553-5562; hotel.laloma@yahoo.es ; Miches; r/tr RD$1600/1900; ) Perched atop a hill
at the end of a rather steep driveway, rooms here have commanding views of the city and
bay to the north and sweeping mountaintops to the south. It's a comfortable place to stop
for the night on your way to Sabana de la Mar, and it's the best place to stay in town.
Rooms are sparse but large and clean and have equally spectacular views - the real draw
here. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant (mains RD$140 to RD$460)
serves good food and huge portions.

Information
BanReservas (cnr Calle Fernando Deligne & Gral Santana) is at the western end of town, one block
south of Calle Mella; there's a 24-hour ATM.
Getting There & Away
Keep in mind, the new Carretera Miches from Bávaro will cut drive times to Higüey from
those mentioned here upon its completion.
Sitrahimi guaguas to Higüey (RD$180, three hours, every 30 minutes from 4:10am to
5:40pm) leave from a terminal at the Isla gas station at the east end of town just before the
bridge. Asochosin guaguas going to and from Sabana de la Mar (RD$130, 1½ hours,
every 30 minutes from 6:45am to 6pm) leave from the corner of Calle Mella and Calle 16
de Agosto. There is talk of extending the new highway to Sabana de la Mar, but that's still
a few years off.
If you're passing through town, let the driver know you want to catch an onward bus
and he will most likely drop you at the next terminal, saving you a motoconcho or taxi
ride between the two.
