The intersection of Entrada a los Conucos and Carretera Local is the main area in town,
with a number of restaurants, bars, shops and services clustered nearby. Most of the ho-
tels, including all of the resorts, are east of here, and not within walking distance if you're
carrying baggage.

idiosyncratic place about 500m west of Juan Dolio's main intersection is for the traveler
looking to mellow out in a backpacker-style hotel. That's not to say the rooms aren't com-
fortable; this little ashram in the Caribbean is worn-with-character, with clean, tiled floors,
high-power fans, tepid water, and international cable TV. Rooms come in a variety of
shapes and sizes.
There's meditation, yoga classes and massages (average at best, but relaxing for the
price) on offer and guests can also take advantage of an airport taxi that's a US$20 savings
on the street rate. Some proceeds from the hotel go to supporting a girl's foundation in In-
dia, where the good-hearted Italian owner, Mara, spends half the year.

This well-located, simple guesthouse is run by Antonio, who can usually be found across
the street at the family's beach bar (good food on the cheap). The 22 rooms here are
simple and uninspired, but are directly across the street from the town beach, 200m east of
the main intersection.

The Talanquera never seems to be crowded, but perfectly acceptable rooms here are a
stunning deal - half the price of much of the competition.
