(Av George Washington; mains RD$200; 8am-11pm Mon-Fri, 24hr Sat & Sun; ) This popular
family-friendly chain occupies a spectacular location overlooking the Caribbean. Waiters
scurry throughout the two floors and outdoor dining area doling out Dominican specialities
like yucca or plantain mofongo as well as standard meat dishes. An inexpensive buffet
(RD$200) is another option and the fruit drinks hit the spot. There are three other outposts
in Santo Domingo.

Vegetarians will want to try out this pleasant cafeteria-style restaurant and yoga center
(hatha classes 6pm to 7pm Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) run by the 'International
Society of Divine Realization.' Dominican dishes like brown rice and roast beans outnum-

Hermanos Villar

( 809-682-1433; cnr Avs Independencia & Pasteur; mains RD$175; 7am-11pm) Occupying almost
an entire city block, Hermanos Villar has two parts: the bustling Dominican-style diner
serving cafeteria food and hot, grilled deli sandwiches, and a large outdoor garden restaur-
ant that is slightly more upscale in terms of menu. Finding an empty table inside during the
heavy lunchtime traffic is a challenge, so getting things to go is always an option.
