Zona Colonial
A handful of Chinese restaurants serve inexpensive Cantonese-style meals in the small
Chinatown neighborhood just north of Av Mella and Calle Duarte; typical of the bunch is

Fri, to 11pm Sat & Sun) with good fried rice and lo mein but reheated frozen egg rolls. For a
meal full of ambience choose from Pura Tasca, Harry's, Pat'e Palo, Angelo and
Mamajuana Cafe on Plaza Espana's Calle la Atarazana. And of course, Calle El Conde
has its fair share of cafes (Cafe Paco Cabana can be especially recommended) and eater-
ies, though primarily fast food.
Jumbo Express MAP GOOGLE MAP (cnr Calles El Conde & Duarte; 8am-8pm Mon-Sat
8:30am-3pm Sun) is the largest grocery store in the Zona Colonial - the place to load up on
cheap water, soda, alcohol and juice.
La Cafetera Colonial

hangout for artists, intellectuals and journalists, this long and narrow greasy spoon still
caters to a regular clientele. Pull up a stool at the counter for an egg sandwich, burger or a
strong espresso (RD$65).
